A Little Background
Back in the day, my husband and I only bought real trees. We lived in apartments for several years of our marriage and storing an artificial tree wasn’t a possibility in such tight quarters. Also, the initial smell of real trees really drew us in. We also enjoyed the experience of choosing and cutting down the trees ourselves.
After nearly a decade of real Christmas trees, we bought our first artificial tree the Christmas after our 3rd daughter was born. We loved our tradition of heading to the tree farm with our friends, enjoying hot cider, and tailgating in the Christmas Tree Farm parking lot. We’d all bring a dish and have a blast. Then we’d help each other pick out trees and cut them down. It was always cold but we managed. Until the one winter we trekked to the tree farm with a 6 month old, a two year old and a three year old.
There was snow on the ground and it was freezing! The kids were miserable and they made us miserable. We didn’t tailgate this time, it was just too cold and the kids did not want to deal. Wanting to get the kids home quickly, we cut down the first tree we saw, tied it to the top of the car, and drove home. We got it home and set it up. A short time later we realized that the tree was infested with ants! Needless to say we had to get rid of it right away.
Enter the Artificial Tree
Not wanting to go the season without a tree, we went to Target and purchased our first artificial tree. We figured we’d only use it that once and sell it. Boy were we wrong! We loved the convenience of the artificial tree! We had no pine needles to clean up, no sticky sap getting on our hands and floors, no need to water it, no worrying if we left the lights on too long, and no more trekking in the snow with three kids to cut down a tree! IT WAS GLORIOUS! We used that tree for the next six years before we retired it.
Realizing it had seen better days and it wouldn’t fit well in our new house, we sold it on Facebook just before our move. The week before Christmas 2017, we arrived at our new home in Texas. It was so late in the season, we didn’t bother with a tree that year.
Enter King of Christmas
The following year though, it was on! I bought my first King of Christmas flocked tree and it was perfect. I absolutely loved it! We got the 15-foot King Flock with 2000 LED lights and it was the most beautiful tree I’d ever laid eyes on. It was so realistic and I just LOVED the snowy white flocking.
I was so very impressed with the quality of that Christmas Tree that the following year I jumped at the chance to partner with King of Christmas on a new tree for our dining room! I chose the 7-foot Prince Flock pre-lit tree with 400 LED lights and again I was beyond impressed with the quality. It is like the little sister to our giant tree in the living room!

Q + A Time
Now to answer some of your questions about our trees:
What’s the difference between the King Flock and the Prince Flock?
The King Flock contains a blend of Polyethylene (PE) and Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC), while the Prince tree is 100% PVC. The PE material is used on the tips of the tree and tends to give the tree a more realistic look. The PVC is used as a filler to make the tree look more full. I have both the King and Prince Flock and I think the quality and beauty of the both trees are the same.
Does the Flocked Tree shed?
A bit of the flocking comes off during set up, but it isn’t much at all.
What happens if one of the lights burn out?
If one bulb goes out, the rest will still remain lit!
Are the trees easy to set up?
Yes it is super easy to set up. I was able to set the 7-foot tree up alone in about 5 minutes. The three parts literally snap into each other and then you plug in the lights to each part. Super easy! I needed assistance with the 15-foot tree as it is much heavier. I also needed a really tall ladder. You will need to spend some time fluffing the branches and such but the branches have memory wire and bounce right into place for the most part.
For the 7-foot tree, I used a Christmas Tree Urn from Ballard Designs. The pole to the tree just slid right into the hole in the urn and I tightened the screws. Super easy and sturdy! I love the look so much, I bought a second tree urn for our entryway tree too! The urn adds about a foot of height to your tree so keep that in mind when purchasing. Unfortunately the cream colored urn is sold out, but it is available in black!
I also found a few tree collars that would look great around the base of the tree too. I have the hammered gold one and plan to use it on another tree upstairs.
The 15-foot tree needs a really wide tree skirt. I found a fur one from Balsam Hill and it is 72″, but I think I’d even like an 84″ better more more overhang. I’m also linking a few other tree skirts I love that would work for either tree depending on size.
