Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas
Today I am bringing your a few summer bedroom decorating ideas to lighten and brighten your space. Read my tips on choosing a summer color palette, patterns, bedding, pillows and decor.
Choose a Summer Color Palette
I’m so glad I chose neutral furniture pieces in the bedroom. This way I can add any color or pattern I’m crushing on each season. This summer I am loving crisp white and light blue in my bedroom.
I suggest choosing a summer color palette that is lighter and brighter than your winter color palette. Create an immediate feeling of summer by incorporating colors that remind you of the water, sand, and sun. Shades of blue, gray, tan and beige all pair well with a nice crisp summer white.
Other summer color palettes include those you’d find in a bright summer garden or tropical paradise, such as yellow, green, turquoise or bright pink.
When choosing paint colors for your bedroom, I suggest using a light and bright neutral color rather than a dark color to create a soothing environment. My favorite go-to neutral is Benjamin Moore Horizon paired with Chantilly Lace.

Choose Lightweight Bedding
In the summer, I like to replace my blankets, layers, and plush heavier bedding with lightweight crisp linen or cotton blend sheets and a light breathable quilt. This year I fell in love with this white quilt. I am using it on my bed as my cover and have folded the duvet at the foot of the bed.
Add Decorative Pillows
Use pillows designed to accent or complement the decor in your bedroom. Throw pillows are a great way to add color and pattern to a space.
For summer, I chose a beachy, watercolor blue, palm frond pattern. It truly makes me feel like I’m entering paradise each time I enter my bedroom. Other patterns that make me think of summer are summer floral designs, stripes, such as pinstripe or thicker awning stripes, and gingham or check patterns.
You can also incorporate crisp summer white throw pillows as I did using three ruffled Euro Pillows behind the patterned shams and a simple white tassel pillow in front. Using white euro pillows as a backdrop to your patterned or colored shams and throw pillows looks great year round.
Add Coastal Decor
Coastal decor is perfect for summer and works with every decor style. You can add in coastal accents through your bedding, pillows and decorative accessories.
Not only did I choose a beachy palm print duvet and pillow shams, I added a coastal look using white coral pieces and other crisp white decorative accessories like ginger jars and candles.
I have a large collection of white coral pieces and they look great styled on nightstands, dressers, and shelves in the bedroom (or any room) during the summer. I even chose to display decor books that evoke that coastal vibe such as Coastal Blues which has a pretty watercolor blue spine.
You can also go as far as choosing a coastal style lamp for your nightstands. My clear glass lamps remind me of the weathered sea glass found on beaches. They also look great with the acrylic hardware I used on my nightstands.
Another decorative accent that looks great in a bedroom and adds a coastal vibe is the pineapple. Pineapples are symbols of welcome, warmth and hospitality, making them perfect accents in guest bedrooms as well.
Add texture to your space with bamboo or rattan baskets and trays. I love the white bamboo tray featured above, but sadly it is no longer available.
Add Summer Florals
I don’t consider a room complete unless there is a bouquet of fresh or faux flowers adding life to the space. Summer is no exception to that rule! As much as I love fresh flowers, I tend to use mainly faux florals in my decor. The reason for this is because unlike fresh flowers, faux flowers last forever and are quite beautiful as well. My favorite summer flowers are hydrangeas and peonies so I added a few to my ginger jars and placed them on the nightstands.
My bedroom still has a ways to go until it is complete. I hope to add some art, new lighting, and a seating area soon. However, I hope you enjoyed these Summer Bedroom Decorating Ideas and find them helpful in refreshing your bedroom for summer. How do you update your bedroom for summer?
