Coastal Guest Bedroom
Hi friends! Today I am sharing my new Coastal Guest Bedroom Makeover with you. I am so excited to partner with Safavieh once again. This time, I decided to give our guest room an entire makeover using coastal style furnishings by Safavieh.
My Vision
I am excited to see my vision for my Coastal Guest Bedroom become a reality through this collaboration with Safavieh. I have been trying to infuse a more refined coastal look in my home over the past year. Safavieh offers many different styles of furniture, but some of my favorites are the pieces that invoke a coastal vibe.
For this room makeover, I wanted to make our guest bedroom relaxed yet refined with both masculine and feminine appeal. I wanted clean lines with natural elements and distinctive texture. To achieve this, I added shades of blue and gold accents with additional layers of warmth and texture through the use of rattan.
This is the concept board I created when planning the space. I start every project with a design concept before committing to any purchases. This helps me see how each color and piece will work together in the space.
About Safavieh
The Safavieh brand was established over 100 years ago and to this day they provide quality, durability, beauty, and artistry in their beautiful furnishings. Their collections range from the finest antique and historical reproductions to the most fashion-forward contemporary styles. The brand offers several lines of home furnishings including finely crafted furniture, lighting, accessories and even a Safavieh Couture line.
Safavieh is a leading manufacturer and distributor of fine rugs and home furnishings. I have yet to be disappointed with their products or service. They truly have something for everyone at every price point and decor style.
Rattan Headboard
Safavieh has an extensive collection of rattan furniture including chairs, stools, benches, beds, headboards, nightstands, coffee tables, console tables and patio furniture.
For the bed, I knew I wanted a casual vibe, while still offering elegance in the form of shape and design, so I chose Safavieh’s Sephina Headboard. This intricately woven white queen size headboard is crafted in a combination of rattan and hardwoods. The allover weave and camelback design are spiffed up with airy open trellis work. This design is perfect for a coastal bedroom.
Chandelier
Lighting makes such a huge difference in a space. Safavieh has a huge selection of lighting. For this makeover, I removed the ceiling fan and replaced it with Safavieh’s Elias Chandelier. Polished and poised, this contemporary chandelier is a chic addition to the space. I just love the luxurious brass gold finish and the 100% cotton white shades. The chandelier has four lights and offers a soft glow in the bedroom.
Benches
Since we have the space, I wanted to add something to the end of the bed. One of the most practical pieces to put at the end of a bed is a bench. I wanted to give guests a place to plop down and tie shoes in the morning or kick them off at the end of the day. Stylistically I wanted something that had some texture and warmth and would play nicely with the look and feel of the bed. Ultimately, I chose two square benches rather than a long single bench for the foot of the bed. Safavieh’s Jenine Faux Ostrich
Square Bench exceeded my expectations. Its gold metallic finish and geometric legs complement its rich navy faux ostrich print leather upholstery.
Nightstands
I have loved the Mina Nightstand by Safavieh for quite some time. I am so glad I was able to incorporate it into this bedroom design. Its rich, navy finish and bamboo style detail make it a classic. I kept the styling of the nightstand simple using a classic coastal style lamp, and a ceramic flower jar stacked on top of one of my favorite design books with a blue and white spine.
Due to space constraints on the other side of the bed, I was not able to fit another nightstand. Instead I used a small gold cocktail table. These adorable tables come in handy in lots of places. They are perfect for placing a glass of water by the bedside. I placed a faux palm plant on top to add additional life and greenery to the space.
Dresser
This bedroom boasts a dresser nook flanked by the closet on one side and bedroom door on the other. My challenge was finding a dresser that would fit perfectly within the nook. The Safavieh Genevieve 3-Drawer Dresser was the perfect fit and a chic addition to the guest room. The dresser has clean lines and modern brass hardware and legs. The white-washed color of the mahogany wood is perfect for coastal bedrooms.
Mirror
Safavieh’s Nemi Mirror is mounted over the dresser. The round shape is perfect in coastal inspired designs, but the addition of layered open borders and the bamboo look make it a striking piece. The sleek gold finish pairs well with the brass hardware on the dresser.
Bedding
For the bedding, I went for striking contrast by pairing white linens with bold touches of color. I layered the bed with white sheets, a soft white ruffled quilt and a bold navy blue comforter folded at the foot of the bed. The bed pillows are layered behind quilted ruffled shams with two navy blue solid throw pillows in front. A white textured and tasseled lumbar pillow creates a carefree aesthetic on the bed.
Seating Area
I love adding seating areas to bedrooms when I can. In this room, an empty corner is the perfect seating area complete with a comfy white chair, a vintage reading lamp and a garden stool.
I am having a pillow made in the same fabric as the wallpaper to add to the white chair. For now I am using a blue and white dotted pillow until the custom one arrives. I also love this affordable navy and gray H blanket.
The floor lamp is a vintage find but I have linked something similar from Safavieh with the acrylic pole.
The wall above the seating area contains blue and white color prints I found on Etsy and printed at home. They are old, but l love the white washed wood frames.
Wall Treatment
I knew I wanted to add character and charm to the space so I chose to add wall paneling around the room’s perimeter, halfway up the wall. Wall paneling is an impactful way to add instant charm to almost any room and my carpenter was able to do this in one day for minimal expense.
I chose to do a board and batten treatment on the walls. Basically, the work consisted of smoothing out the textured walls, adding a top rail around the perimeter of the room halfway up the wall, then adding evenly spaced strips of wood to the walls. Once the board and battan was in place, the entire bottom half of the walls were painted using Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore in a satin finish. Top portion of the walls were painted Horizon by Benjamin Moore.
Wallpaper
The most drastic change to the space is the striking Priano Wallpaper by Serena and Lily. The free-flowing vine watercolor print on the wallpaper features dark blue, light blue and gray tones. The wallpaper adds surprising depth to the walls. I like how it adds a soft romantic look to the room while still retaining a coastal vibe.
Since wallpaper can be costly, I only used it on one wall above the board and battan to create an accent wall. The wallpaper was also used on the back wall of the dresser nook.
