Hi friends! Today I’m sharing some information about the fun wall stencil I used in our POWDER BATHROOM reveal that I shared recently. You can read all about it and see lots of photos here. One of the my favorite updates in the powder room was painting botanical leaves on the top portion of the walls. The stencil I used is from StenCilit. It is called the Botanica Stencil. This botanical design looks beautiful in our traditional meets modern botanical powder room.
Botanical Stencil
Stencilit reached out to me and offered to send me one of their stencils and I immediately knew the powder room would be the perfect space to give it a try.
After combing their shop looking at all of their available stencils and perusing their Instagram page, I landed on this image.
I immediately knew that this was the stencil I wanted to use in the Powder Room. Our powder room is also connected to the back entrance and is off our pool, so I thought a modern botanical print on the walls would be fitting.
Sadly I could not find the exact stencil available on the Stencilit website, so I emailed them and asked them to recommend something similar. I was elated when they responded and said that even though the Botanical Stencil is no longer offered online, they could still send it to me! Yes! I was one step closer to achieving my vision!
The stencil arrived in a few short days and I was ready to tackle the painting process.
Once the wall was prepped and painted, we used the stencil to paint the botanical leaves around the perimeter of the powder room. I chose to paint them using the color Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore which is an accent color used throughout the main areas of my home. By bringing this color to the powder room, I was able to achieve a cohesive look in my home.
Stencil Tips
There are a couple of things to keep in mind when you are painting using a stencil:
- Practice using your stencil on a piece of cardboard first! This is important! Don’t skip this step.
- Ensure your stencil isn’t going anywhere by using painters tape to tape it in place.
- Use a roller and make sure not to have too much paint on your brush or it will bleed. Less is more when stenciling. Once you roll the roller into the paint, be sure to blot most of the paint off onto newspaper or cardboard until the roller is almost dry. It is better to have too little than too much paint. You can always go back over it with a little more if needed.
- Clean the stencil in between if the paint starts to build up. Use warm running water and a dish brush to clean.
Wall Stencil vs. Wallpaper
Wall stencils are a great alternative to wallpaper. Here are some reasons why I chose to use a stencil in my project rather than go the wallpaper route.
- Wallpaper is more of a commitment than a stencil.
- Wall stencils are more budget friendly.
- You can choose your colors to customize a stencil.
- Less hassle in removing wallpaper if your tastes change in the future.
